چکیده

We present XMM-Newton observations of the black hole X-ray nova V404 Cyg in quiescence. Its quiescent spectrum can be best fitted by a simple power-law with slope Γ ∼ 2. The spectra are consistent with that expected for the advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF). V404 Cyg was roughly equal in luminosity compared to the previous observation of Chandra. We see variability of a factor of 4 during the observation. We find no evidence for the presence of fluorescent or H-like/Helike iron emission, with upper limits of 52 eV and 110 eV respectively. The limit on the fluorescent emission is improved by a factor of 15 over the previous estimate, and the restriction on H-like/He-like emission is lower than predicted from models by a factor of roughly 2. Subject headings: binaries: close — black hole physics — stars: individual (V404 Cyg) — X-rays: stars

The 2015 Decay of the Black Hole X-ray Binary V404 Cygni: Robust Disk-jet Coupling and a Sharp Transition into Quiescence

We present simultaneous X-ray and radio observations of the black hole X-ray binary V404 Cygni at the end of its 2015 outburst. From 2015 July 11–August 5 we monitored V404 Cygni with Chandra, Swift, and NuSTAR in the X-ray, and with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array and the Very Long Baseline Array in the radio, spanning a range of luminosities that were poorly covered during its previous ou...

A New Model for Black Hole Soft X - ray Transients in Quiescence

We present models of the soft X-ray transients, A0620-00, V404 Cyg, and X-ray Nova Mus 1991, in quiescence. In each source, we postulate that there is an outer region, extending outward from about 3000 Schwarzschild radii, where the accretion ow is in the form of a standard thin disk. The outer disk produces most of the radiation we observe in the infrared, optical and UV bands. We propose that...

Revisiting the radio/X-ray flux correlation in the black hole V404 Cyg: from outburst to quiescence

We report results of Chandra X-ray and VLA radio observations of the Galactic accreting black hole V404 Cyg (GS 2023+338) in its quiescent state. V404 Cyg is detected at its faintest level of radio and X-ray emission with a 0.5–10 keV unabsorbed luminosity of 8.3 × 10 (d/3.5 kpc) erg s. The X-ray spectrum fit with an absorbed power-law model yields a photon index of 2.17 ± 0.13. Contrary to pre...

XMM–Newton observations of the black hole X-ray transient XTE J1650–500 in quiescence

We report the result of an XMM–Newton observation of the black hole X-ray transient XTE J1650–500 in quiescence. The source was not detected, and we set upper limits on the 0.5–10 keV luminosity of 0.9–1.0 × 1031 erg s−1 (for a newly derived distance of 2.6 kpc). These limits are in line with the quiescent luminosities of black hole X-ray binaries with similar orbital periods (∼7–8 h).

Coronal X-ray Emission from the Stellar Companions to Transiently Accreting Black Holes

Many neutron stars and black holes are in binaries where the mass transfer rate onto the compact object is highly variable. X-ray observations of these transients in quiescence (Lx < 1034 erg s−1) have found that the binaries harboring black holes are much fainter than those that contain a neutron star. Narayan and collaborators postulated that the faint X-ray emission from black hole binaries ...
